Chapter 100
"Absolutely not!" Harrison's denial came swift and sharp. "I wasn't with Nathaniel last night!"
As she spoke, Nathaniel fought back a smirk. She was so terrified Alexander might discover their secret encounter that she'd fabricated this entire story.
What a cunning little fox.
Alexander shot Nathaniel a questioning look. "Aren't you going to say anything?"
Nathaniel's chiseled features remained impassive, his icy gaze unreadable. "She's already said everything, hasn't she?"
He chose to play along with her deception.
Feeling the tension thicken, Harrison made a hasty retreat. "Mr. Falcon, Alexander, I'll let you two talk. I need to step out."
She vanished from the office, leaving the men in charged silence.
Alexander exhaled in frustration, moving closer to Nathaniel. "You need to work on your social awareness."
Nathaniel arched an eyebrow in silent inquiry.
Alexander rolled his eyes dramatically. "When Harrison and I are together, you should make yourself scarce. Give us some privacy. Understand?"
Nathaniel's expression darkened. This was his damn office. Why should he leave?
His voice dripped with irritation. "Then you should be the one to go."
Alexander blinked in disbelief. "What's with the attitude? I'm your best friend! And you're kicking me out when I'm trying to romance a girl? You're supposed to help me! Besides, you were the one who pushed me toward Harrison in the first place."
Nathaniel exhaled sharply, his patience wearing thin.
Harrison remained his wife, and he wasn't about to be made a fool of.
His lips pressed into a thin line. "You're the love expert. Is there really a woman you can't conquer?"
Alexander chuckled. "Harrison's different. She's too innocent. I don't want to scare her off."
Nathaniel froze. Innocent?
Her angelic face might suggest purity, but Nathaniel knew better. This was the same woman who'd kissed him passionately last night, who'd pressed her body against his, whose exploring hands had slipped beneath his shirt.
Memories flooded back—the electric sensations coursing through him, the explosive pleasure that had left him breathless. Just the recollection made his pulse quicken and his thoughts scatter.
Harrison was anything but innocent in matters of intimacy.
She knew exactly what she was doing.
That angelic face hid bedroom skills that could bring any man to his knees. The contrast between her sweet exterior and her commanding presence in private? Irresistible.
Nathaniel remained silent, lost in thought.
Dominic entered abruptly, his voice hushed. "Mr. Falcon, Mrs. Falcon has left for the press conference."
What? She'd gone alone?
Nathaniel's lips curled into a dangerous smile. She'd promised to handle the situation, but instead of stopping the event, she'd marched straight into the lion's den.
What game was she playing now?
Was she about to drop another bombshell?
Nathaniel surged to his feet. "Get the car ready. We're going to the press conference."
He needed to see this unfolding disaster with his own eyes.
Alexander followed closely. "Nathaniel, I'm coming with you."
The press conference was a media circus. Thirty-six of Willowbrook's most prominent news outlets filled the room, cameras flashing nonstop as reporters jostled for position.
Vincent Blackwood stood before the sea of journalists, his practiced humility on full display. His voice trembled with manufactured emotion. "Though Harrison is my adopted daughter, I've always treated her as my own flesh and blood..."
