Chapter 40
Nathaniel had created Isabella's arrogance with his own hands. She was the woman he'd indulged beyond reason, and now she wielded that privilege like a weapon.
Harrison gave a bitter laugh. "Reginald, what really happened today? Did someone send Eleanor a photo?"
Reginald produced the damning photograph - clear evidence of Nathaniel and Isabella dancing intimately at The Velvet Lounge the previous night.
"This morning, an anonymous sender delivered this to Mrs. Eleanor. They exposed Mr. Falcon and Isabella's affair. Mrs. Eleanor saw it and flew into a rage. She immediately dispatched guards to apprehend Isabella."
Eleanor genuinely cared for Harrison and couldn't bear seeing her distressed.
Harrison studied the photo thoughtfully. "Reginald, who do you think sent this?"
"Whoever exposed Mr. Falcon and Isabella's affair is clearly aligned with your interests," Reginald observed.
A soft smile touched Harrison's lips as her thoughts wandered. No wonder Nathaniel didn't trust her - everyone seemed to draw the same conclusion.
At surface level, she stood to gain from this situation. Either she or one of her allies could have orchestrated it, using Eleanor's influence to punish Isabella and exact revenge on her behalf.
Just then, Eleanor murmured from the bed, "Nathaniel..."
Reginald leaned closer. "Mrs. Harrison, Mrs. Eleanor is calling for Mr. Falcon."
Nathaniel had upset Eleanor today, and Harrison feared this might create permanent damage between them.
The ringing phone shattered the moment. Victoria was calling.
Harrison answered to immediate accusations. "Harrison, look what you've done! You got Isabella hospitalized. Get here immediately!" Victoria demanded her presence at the hospital.
Harrison remained impassive. "Very well. I'll be there shortly."
She hung up, grabbed her purse, and headed for the door.
"Mrs. Harrison, are you certain you should go?" Reginald's concern was palpable, fearing for Harrison's safety.
Harrison reassured him calmly, "Don't trouble yourself, Reginald. I know precisely what I'm doing."
At the hospital, Harrison entered the VIP suite. Isabella sat wrapped in a hospital gown, her pallor accentuating her delicate features - the perfect image of a fragile beauty. Nathaniel and Victoria flanked her protectively.
Victoria launched her attack immediately. "The doctor just examined Isabella. Thankfully no permanent damage. But you manipulated Eleanor into attacking her! If Nathaniel hadn't intervened, Isabella could have been seriously injured - or worse. You're absolutely heartless!"
Harrison maintained her silence.
Nathaniel, towering and composed, stood beside the bed, handing Isabella a glass of warm water.
Isabella pouted. "Feed me."
Nathaniel obliged, bringing the glass to her lips.
Tilting her face upward, Isabella gazed at Nathaniel with saccharine sweetness. "Nathaniel, after this incident with Harrison, your grandmother will surely despise me even more."
She tugged at Nathaniel's sleeve playfully. "You'll have to love me twice as much now. Compensate me for all the affection I've lost from your grandmother."
Nathaniel looked down at her, his expression softening as he gently stroked her hair.
Isabella's triumphant gaze shifted to Harrison, eyes glittering with provocation.
Harrison stood motionless by the doorway, watching her husband's intimate gestures with another woman. The isolation cut deeper than any insult.
"Harrison, why are you just standing there? This is entirely your fault! Apologize to Isabella immediately!" Victoria sneered.
The entire summons had been orchestrated solely to force Harrison's humiliation.
Nathaniel finally lifted his head, his icy dark eyes locking onto Harrison's face with unsettling intensity.
