Chapter 369

"Answer me!" Nathaniel's voice cut through the air like a whip.

Harrison couldn't suppress a laugh.

Who did he think he was? Her commanding officer? Since when did she take orders from him?

She turned away pointedly.

Oliver chuckled from the driver's seat. "Harrison, even though you and Mr. Falcon are divorced, the tension between you two is palpable. Does he still have feelings for you?"

She shrugged, feigning indifference. "Couldn't care less."

Oliver smirked. "When I put my arm around you in that boutique, he looked ready to murder me with his bare hands. I must say, playing your fake boyfriend is hazardous work."

She shot him a look. "If you're scared, I could always ask Maxwell or Evelyn."

"Over my dead body! I'd take a bullet for you any day."

Their laughter filled the car as they pulled up to Willowridge University. Harrison headed straight for the girls' dorm, only to find Rosalind's bed empty.

She settled in to wait.

Just as Harrison suspected, Rosalind had gone looking for Everett.

Rosalind arrived at Everett's classroom when two male students intercepted her before she could call out.

"Hey, Rosalind!"

She blinked in surprise. "You know my name?"

"You've been coming here daily for a week. Of course we recognize you!"

"And now you're practically famous on campus. That whole scene at the basketball game where Everett and Julian were fighting over you? Campus legend."

Rosalind hadn't realized her newfound notoriety. With her birthmark gone, her delicate features drew admiring glances wherever she went.

Today she wore the school uniform - crisp white blouse, navy blue skirt, matching blazer. Her raven hair cascaded freely, her bangs framing an innocent schoolgirl look.

Her cheeks flushed pink. "Is Everett here today?"

The boys shook their heads. "Haven't seen him in days."

Another absence.

Disappointment twisted in her chest. "Thanks anyway." She adjusted her handbag containing his forgotten jacket.

After winning the basketball game against Julian, Everett had walked away without a backward glance.

Rosalind ducked into the women's restroom. Moments later, a group of senior girls entered, led by Adriana Rowe - the department's reigning beauty.

Adriana came from old money, famous for her modelesque legs that had half the male student body swooning. Her friends teased her mercilessly.

"Made any progress with Everett yet?"

Rosalind's ears perked up at the name.

Adriana tossed her hair. "Please. I've been chasing him forever and he acts like I'm invisible. Probably just playing hard to get."

Her perfect pout showed her frustration.

"Of course he is! Who could resist you, especially in those miniskirts?"

"Honestly, Everett's an idiot. How many rich heirs have driven sports cars to your dorm? And he thinks he's too good for you?"

Adriana's smile turned bitter. "Let's be real - I only like him because he's gorgeous. That whole brooding bad boy thing. Otherwise, with his messy background? I wouldn't touch him with a ten-foot pole."
