Chapter 29

"Ahhh!"

Isabella's piercing scream forced Nathaniel to slam on the brakes, bringing the Bentley to an abrupt stop.

She gasped for air, her heart pounding wildly. "Nathaniel! What were you thinking driving like that?"

His expression remained icy as he glanced in the rearview mirror. The Ferrari that had been tailgating them had already sped past during their sudden stop.

Nathaniel's jaw tightened. "Are you injured?"

Isabella shook her head quickly. "I'm fine."

Then she muttered under her breath, "I can't believe Harrison managed to catch Alexander's attention. Did you see how she was moving on the dance floor? A country girl who dropped out at sixteen, yet she's mastered every trick in the book to seduce men. She's completely shameless!"

Nathaniel's eyes darkened as images of Harrison's sensual movements flashed through his mind. Isabella wasn't wrong - Harrison had clearly learned those seductive techniques somewhere. Even Alexander, who rarely showed interest in anyone, had been captivated.

"Nathaniel, have you finalized the divorce with Harrison yet?" Isabella pressed.

"Not yet."

Her eyes widened. "Why? Weren't you supposed to sign the papers today?"

She'd been certain it would already be done by now.

"Eleanor is very fond of Harrison. For her health, we've decided to postpone the divorce temporarily," Nathaniel explained coldly.

Eleanor was involved?

Isabella knew Eleanor disapproved of her. The old woman favored Harrison and was Nathaniel's biggest supporter.

A wave of panic washed over Isabella. As long as Eleanor lived, Nathaniel might never divorce Harrison, and she would never become Mrs. Falcon.

Frustration bubbled up inside her. "Nathaniel, why do you always obey your grandmother? What about me? I'm not getting any younger! A woman's prime years are precious. How much longer must I wait?"

Nathaniel shot her a chilling look. "If you'd wanted this three years ago, you could have been Mrs. Falcon already. This has nothing to do with Harrison now."

Isabella's mouth snapped shut, the verbal blow striking deep. She'd been expertly silenced.

But she was nothing if not adaptable. Within seconds, she softened her posture, leaning seductively against him and tracing his jawline. "Nathaniel, darling, I'm sorry. I just want to be your wife so badly. Don't you want that too?"

Her honeyed words seemed to bounce off him. He removed her hand with deliberate indifference. "I'm taking you home now."

Defeated, Isabella slumped back into her seat, her eyes darkening with malice. She hated waiting. She preferred action. She would make Nathaniel divorce Harrison immediately - even Eleanor couldn't stop her!

Thirty minutes later, the Bentley rolled onto the manicured lawns of Falcon Estate. Nathaniel had returned home alone.

He strode into the grand foyer, but Harrison was nowhere to be seen. She still hadn't returned.

His temper flared. She was out later than him.

By his calculations, Alexander should have dropped her off by now. Unless... she'd gone somewhere else with him.

Nathaniel yanked out his phone and dialed Harrison's number.

It rang once before connecting. His grip tightened on the device as he demanded, "Harrison, why aren't you home?"

Her clear voice came through the line. "Mr. Falcon, have you forgotten? I told you I wouldn't be returning there."

His voice turned dangerous. "How am I supposed to explain your absence to Eleanor? Harrison, get home now! Why must you always disappear? Who are you with?"
