Chapter 441
Evelyn sat up slowly. "I'm fine. Both the baby and I are okay."
She wouldn’t let anything happen to her child. The shock of the kidnapping had overwhelmed her, but now, she was steady again.
Nathaniel studied Evelyn with a serious gaze. "You're carrying Dominic's child. He doesn’t know?"
A bitter smile curved her lips. "You saw it yourself. He didn’t hesitate for a second when forced to choose between me and Sophia. What’s the point of telling him? I can raise this child alone."
Nathaniel exhaled, understanding the depth of Evelyn’s pain. Though she hadn’t voiced it, Dominic’s choice had cut deep.
Just then, Cassandra and Gabrielle rushed in, their hands immediately hovering over Evelyn’s stomach.
"How’s the baby? Is everything alright?"
Evelyn forced a smile. "Everything’s fine."
Cassandra scowled. "Dominic’s lost his damn mind! Abandoning his own child for Sophia? When this baby’s born, they’ll never call him 'Dad.' Let him rot with Sophia in hell!"
Gabrielle’s expression darkened. "This time, he’s gone too far. I’m calling him right now—"
Evelyn grabbed her wrist. "Don’t. Sophia’s gloating because she won. If you call and scream at him, it’ll just humiliate me further."
Cassandra and Gabrielle exchanged glances before reluctantly nodding.
"Forget him! That bastard isn’t worth your tears. The baby will have two godmothers who adore them."
Evelyn’s fingers brushed her still-flat stomach, a genuine smile finally breaking through. "Exactly. We don’t need a man like him."
With her best friends beside her, the weight on her chest eased. Their support was the only comfort she needed.
Nathaniel smirked. "I had someone dig into Scarface. Want to guess who he is?"
Evelyn’s sharp gaze locked onto his. "I don’t know his name, but I’m certain Sophia paid him well."
Nathaniel raised a brow. "How’d you figure that out?"
A cold laugh escaped her. "I know Sophia. If she’d really been kidnapped, she’d have been hysterical. But she looked amused—like she was watching a show. And when Scarface forced Dominic to choose? That confirmed it."
Nathaniel nodded. "You’re right. Scarface was hired by Sophia. The whole kidnapping was her little performance."
Evelyn’s lips curled. "Her show’s over. Now it’s my turn. Nathaniel, contact Dominic. Tell him I had urgent business and couldn’t make dinner, but I’ll visit Sophia at the hospital tomorrow."
Nathaniel grinned. "Consider it done. Tomorrow’s going to be… interesting."
Oh, it would be.
Nathaniel hesitated. "By the way, Dominic’s been searching for you. Do you want to talk to him?"
Cassandra snapped, "No! Where was he when she needed him?"
Gabrielle crossed her arms. "Let him keep looking. He doesn’t deserve an answer."
Meanwhile, in the hospital room, Sophia clung to Dominic, whimpering about chest pains and begging him not to leave.
Just then, Michael entered, his expression grim. "Mr. Rossi, we still haven’t found Ms. Evelyn. No trace of her anywhere."
Dominic’s jaw tightened, frustration etching deep lines between his brows.
Where the hell had Evelyn gone?
