Chapter 944

"Lucian, please! Save our baby! Lucian!"

Rosalind's desperate cries echoed through the sterile hospital corridor, her fingers clutching at the crisp white sheets beneath her. Tears blurred her vision as she repeated his name like a prayer.

Lucian didn't even know about the baby. Would their child be lost before he ever got the chance to know?

Hot tears traced paths down her flushed cheeks.

Across the room, Julian and Genevieve exchanged smug smirks, their satisfaction palpable.

Lucian wasn't coming.

Meanwhile, in his sleek office at Quantum Innovations, Lucian leaned back in his leather chair, rubbing his temples. The workday had ended, and he wanted nothing more than to see Rosalind.

He reached for his phone, dialing her number with practiced ease. The line rang once, twice—then silence.

No answer.

His brow furrowed.

Nathaniel entered quietly. "Ms. Fairchild isn't picking up?"

Lucian redialed, his grip tightening on the phone. Where was she? What could possibly be more important than answering his call?

Still nothing.

"Perhaps she's with Dr. Whitmore again and didn't hear it," Nathaniel suggested.

That made sense. Rosalind and Harrison were inseparable—if anything was wrong, Harrison would know.

"I'll call Dr. Whitmore."

Lucian scrolled through his contacts and tapped Harrison's number.

The call connected on the first ring. Harrison's calm, professional voice filled the line. "Mr. Graves."

Lucian had always respected Harrison—not just as Rosalind's closest friend, but as the brilliant physician who had treated his injuries.

"Dr. Whitmore, I wanted to personally apologize for Julian's behavior at the hospital."

He'd already dispatched his team to handle the fallout, but the matter weighed on him.

Harrison chuckled lightly. "Think nothing of it. I completely understand. Seeing a romantic rival would provoke anyone. It just proves how deeply you care for Rosalind. I'm happy for you both."

Lucian nodded, though Harrison couldn't see it. "So, Rosalind visited you at the hospital today..."

Harrison's tone shifted slightly. "Ah, she told you why she came?"

"Of course," Lucian replied smoothly. "She mentioned feeling unwell—something about her stomach."

Truthfully, Harrison had disagreed with Rosalind keeping the pregnancy secret. Hearing that Lucian already knew lifted a weight off his shoulders.

"That's good to hear. Just remember to be more... careful moving forward."

A faint smile touched Lucian's lips. "I would never hurt Rosalind, Doctor."

"It's not just Rosalind I'm concerned about. The baby could be at risk too."

Baby?

The word struck Lucian like lightning.

His hand clenched around the phone. "Baby?"

Harrison, oblivious to the tension in Lucian's voice, continued warmly. "Yes. She's only two months along. The first trimester requires extra caution."

Rosalind was pregnant?

Two months?

Lucian's entire world tilted. No one had told him.

Two months...

He calculated swiftly. That lined up perfectly with when they'd reunited. They'd been inseparable, reckless—he hadn't used protection because some part of him had hoped this would happen.

Could it be?

Was this child conceived that passionate night?

Rosalind was carrying his baby.
