Chapter 156
Nathaniel had faced countless temptations from women over the years. He recognized Harrison's game immediately - she was testing him.
She wanted to see if he'd bite the bait.
A smirk played on Nathaniel's lips. The little minx knew exactly what she was doing.
His phone buzzed, shattering the moment. Isabella's name flashed across the screen.
Just seeing her name cooled Nathaniel's heated blood. The fire Harrison had ignited slowly died down.
He answered.
Isabella's honeyed voice poured through the receiver. "Nathaniel, are you still upset with me? I'm so sorry. I shouldn't have argued or thrown things. I was just... jealous. Seeing you be so kind to Harrison made me crazy. Please forgive me. I love you. More than anything!"
She'd been spoiled by him for years, yet here she was, humbling herself with apologies and sweet nothings.
Nathaniel felt his resolve soften. She was his girl, after all.
His Isabella.
"I overreacted too," he conceded.
Her mood brightened instantly. "Then let's forget this ever happened! Alexander's birthday is tomorrow. Everyone's preparing for the celebration. Let's go together."
"Alright," Nathaniel agreed.
The call ended.
Sebastian emerged from the bathroom, face dripping from splashing cold water. He couldn't accept his gaming rank plummeting from champion to bronze. "Nathaniel! I'm bronze now! I hate Harrison!"
Nathaniel shot him an unimpressed look. "Get over it. Go find a date instead."
"I want to!" Sebastian perked up. "Actually... what do you think of that genius freshman?"
Nathaniel raised an eyebrow. So Sebastian had set his sights on her now?
Grinning like an idiot, Sebastian announced, "I'm heading out. See you at Alexander's party tomorrow."
Nathaniel barely registered Sebastian's departure. People could chase whoever they wanted - it didn't concern him.
His phone buzzed again with Harrison's message: [Do you want it?]
He didn't reply.
He wouldn't take her bait.
Harrison didn't expect a response anyway.
Nathaniel had Isabella. Beautiful women surrounded him constantly. His needs could be met anywhere. What was she to him?
She'd never win this untouchable man.
His indifference cut deep.
Harrison laughed bitterly at herself.
She pulled out Penelope's research paper again, circling two glaring errors in red before sending them to Oliver.
Oliver responded immediately: [Unbelievable mistakes in this paper! I'll have the National Medical Gallery remove it at once.]
The next day, Penelope arrived at the gallery with Frederick, Margaret, and Cassandra. As they passed the exhibits, they spotted Penelope's displayed research.
"Oh!" Margaret gasped, clutching Penelope's arm. "I never dreamed someone from our family would be honored here! Penelope, you've made us so proud. You're the Whitmore family's shining star!"
