Chapter 261
Her fingers hovered near his chiseled features.
Before she could touch him, his hand captured hers. Sleepy dark eyes met hers as he pressed a kiss to her fingertips. "Morning, sweetheart."
That deep morning voice sent shivers down her spine. Harrison pulled away, cheeks flushing. "We should get up. The others will be waking soon."
Nathaniel tugged her back against his chest. "Five more minutes." His nose nuzzled her hair.
"This is a girls' dorm!" She struggled free, only to stumble when her feet hit the floor.
Strong arms caught her mid-fall. "Careful." Amusement laced his voice.
Harrison punched his chest weakly. "This is your fault!"
The crooked yellow hairclip clinging to her messy hair only made her more endearing. Nathaniel's chest vibrated with silent laughter.
He deposited her back on the bed, hovering over her. "Still have energy? How about a morning workout?" His lips descended toward hers.
Harrison dodged with a squeal. "Nathaniel, stop!"
Their playful tussle filled the small room with warmth and laughter. Then his fingers brushed something hard beneath the pillow.
"What's this?" He pulled out the crystal pendant - the very one he'd given her in the cave years ago.
Harrison's breath caught. "You gave this to me."
"Did I?" His brow furrowed.
She cradled the pendant gently. "That night in Wintervale..." Her voice trailed off, searching his face for recognition.
The ringing phone shattered the moment.
Nathaniel answered immediately. Victoria's panicked voice carried through. "Mr. Hawk! Isabella slit her wrists! She's at Willowbrook General!"
Harrison watched the warmth drain from Nathaniel's face. He dressed in record time. "I'm on my way."
The pendant slipped from Harrison's fingers as Nathaniel rushed out. She quietly returned it beneath the pillow.
Last night's magic evaporated. Reality came crashing back - Isabella would always stand between them.
Harrison stood on shaky legs. "I'm coming with you."
