Chapter 339
Harrison dried her hands with a linen cloth before fixing her gaze on Sebastian. "Whatever you're about to say, I hope it's not an apology."
Sebastian had been preparing to do just that, but her words lodged the confession in his throat.
Her voice was arctic, devoid of warmth.
"You tried to hurt me. Words won't erase that. Save your breath—I won't accept it."
Sebastian was speechless. In Willowbrook, he was the untouchable enforcer, feared by all except Nathaniel. No one dared speak to him like this.
His face paled with frustration.
"Rest now. Your leg should heal properly," Harrison added.
Sebastian's ashen features betrayed his exhaustion. Too weak to protest, he obeyed, closing his eyes.
She adjusted the blanket around him. She knew Sebastian had always favored Isabella, believing she belonged with Nathaniel. His cruelty hadn't surprised her. She'd grown numb to it.
Part of her wanted to leave him to suffer. But her healer's instincts refused to let her walk away.
Just then, Adrian entered with fresh clothes. "You're drenched. Change into these."
Sebastian had already changed. Now Adrian had brought women's garments for her.
A chill seeped into Harrison's bones. She hadn't noticed the cold while treating Sebastian, but now her soaked clothes clung like ice.
She accepted them gratefully. "Thank you, Adrian. I'll change here."
Harrison stepped into the room and began peeling off her wet clothes.
Footsteps approached the door. Someone was right outside while she was half-dressed.
She called out sharply, "Who's there?"
An awkward chuckle answered. "Harrison, it's me."
Adrian.
She'd been wary of him since their return. Though he'd helped them, his motives were clearly self-serving.
But she couldn't afford to antagonize him. Not with Sebastian injured and them at his mercy.
She forced neutrality into her tone. "What do you need?"
Adrian lingered at the door, peering through the crack. But Harrison stood just out of view.
His patience frayed. "Need help changing? Should I come in?"
He wanted entry.
Her refusal was immediate. "That won't be necessary."
His voice softened with false concern. "You're my guest. Let me take care of you. I'm coming in."
Without waiting, he pushed the door open.
Harrison stood fully dressed, composed. "I'm finished. Thank you."
Disappointment flashed across Adrian's face. She'd changed too quickly. He'd seen nothing.
His greedy eyes roved her delicate features as he stepped closer. "You must be freezing. My room's warmer..."
Harrison sidestepped, putting distance between them. "My brother-in-law needs medical attention. Excuse me."
