Chapter 360
The thought made Harrison pivot sharply toward the exit.
Nathaniel's imposing frame blocked her path instantly.
"Don't I deserve an explanation?" His voice carried an edge of demand.
Harrison met his gaze with razor-sharp clarity. "About?"
His lips pressed into a thin line before speaking. "The Bentley you drive. The penthouse you occupy." His eyes darkened. "Whose fortune funds your new lifestyle?"
She straightened her spine, radiating defiance. "Certainly not yours. The rest is none of your concern."
She attempted to sidestep him.
Nathaniel remained immovable, his broad shoulders forming an impenetrable barrier.
A smirk played on Harrison's lips. "I know what you're thinking. Just like Isabella and her cronies, you assume I'm some helpless divorcee living off your alimony."
The accusation hit its mark. Nathaniel had indeed believed exactly that - Harrison had never held a proper job.
"You're brilliant, educated." His tone softened unexpectedly. "You devoted years to caring for me. Let me help you now. Name any industry - I'll secure you a position. Even fund your own venture."
How little he truly knew her. Beyond recognizing her genius, Nathaniel understood nothing.
Harrison studied him carefully. The man was devastatingly handsome, radiating magnetism that could enslave any woman. Even post-divorce, he offered wealth, opportunities, connections - everything at his disposal.
Her response was immediate. "No thank you."
With her exit blocked, Harrison turned toward her apartment building.
Nathaniel's hand shot out, encircling her wrist with unyielding strength.
His long fingers - impeccably groomed yet bearing the faint ridges of hard work - pressed against her delicate skin. The contact sparked unwanted memories of those same hands exploring her body.
She jerked away futilely.
In one fluid motion, Nathaniel pinned her against the cold brick wall.
"Release me!" Her voice dripped ice.
His gaze burned into hers. "Planning to tattle to Isabella again?" A dark amusement colored his words. "What exactly will you report this time? That I've assaulted you?"
He remembered her previous accusations all too well.
Harrison narrowed her eyes. Was that genuine amusement flickering in his expression? "You haven't crossed that line yet. But harassment suits you perfectly."
Nathaniel's lips curved dangerously. "Should I come to your place tonight?"
Her pupils dilated in shock.
"Or perhaps you'd prefer mine?" he purred.
"Nathaniel!" she hissed through clenched teeth.
He chuckled, pinching her cheek mockingly. "Now this...this is harassment, darling."
Harrison stood frozen, realizing she'd been played.
Absolute madman!
Nathaniel loomed over her, intensity warring with amusement. "Once more - where did the assets come from? Since it's not my money, whose is it?"
The unspoken accusation hung between them.
Harrison arched a brow. "What? You think I'm some kept woman now?"
Nathaniel's silence confirmed her suspicion. She could practically see the mental list forming - Lucas Harrington undoubtedly topping it.
A mischievous smile curved her lips. "I didn't spend a single penny. Everything was gifted to me."
