Chapter 408

Nathaniel's gaze locked onto Isabella. "You're aware of the heart compatibility?"

Isabella didn't hesitate. "Of course! Harrison's heart is a perfect match for mine. Why keep it from me?"

Nathaniel countered sharply, "And if I had told you?"

Isabella scoffed. "Then you'd make sure Harrison saves me. That's what you should do."

Silence stretched between them.

Isabella's voice turned desperate. "Don't you want me to live? Are you seriously choosing between us? Have you fallen for her? Is that why you're hesitating?"

Nathaniel's expression hardened. "You won't take Harrison's heart."

Isabella paled.

He had actually refused her.

"So what now?" Her voice cracked. "You're giving up on me? Have you forgotten your promises? First, you pull away, and now you won't even save my life?"

Nathaniel exhaled, his tone resigned. "I've sent teams to find another solution. You won't take hers, but I'll find another way."

With that, he turned and walked out, leaving her standing there.

"Nathaniel, come back!"

Fury burned through her. He had rejected her—because he couldn't bear to lose Harrison.

Before, he would have agreed without hesitation.

But something had shifted. Nathaniel had changed when it came to Harrison, and that change terrified Isabella.

Oliver called, inviting Harrison to dinner, but she declined politely. She already had plans with Gabrielle and Rosalind for a girls' night.

The trio settled at a window table in an upscale restaurant.

Rosalind grabbed the menu. "What are we feeling?"

Gabrielle shrugged. "I'll eat anything."

Harrison hesitated, then admitted, "I'm craving something spicy."

Gabrielle blinked. "Since when do you like spicy food?" She knew Harrison's tastes—she rarely touched anything with heat.

Harrison shifted, uncomfortable. The pregnancy cravings had hit hard. "I don't know. Just really want it tonight."

Gabrielle narrowed her eyes. "That's weird. Unless…" A smirk tugged at her lips. "Are you pregnant? They say cravings change when you're expecting."

She meant it as a joke, but Harrison didn't laugh.

Gabrielle's smile vanished. "Wait—Harrison. Are you serious?"

Harrison met her eyes. For once, she didn't want to hide it. She needed to talk this through.

She nodded. "Yes. I'm pregnant."

Gabrielle and Rosalind gasped in unison.

Rosalind recovered first. "Does Nathaniel know?"

Harrison shook her head.

"You have to tell him!" Rosalind already had her phone out. "He might be difficult, but he's not cruel. If he knows, he'll step up. He always handles things."

She started dialing.

Harrison knew Nathaniel would ensure she and the baby were cared for, even if he didn't want the child.

But she gently stopped Rosalind. "No. I spoke to him today. He said he doesn't like kids. Doesn't want to be a father."

Gabrielle's eyes widened. "So… you're keeping it? You want this baby?"
