Chapter 470
Evelyn arched one perfectly sculpted eyebrow. "Mr. Falcon, Cassandra. What an unexpected encounter."
Cassandra's lips curled into a sneer. "I bet you weren't hoping to see us. Afraid we'll expose whatever shady business you're up to?"
As the CEO of Crimson Bistro, Evelyn wielded considerable influence. When Benjamin heard the insult directed at her, he immediately stepped forward. "Ms. Cassandra, must you be so crude?"
"Dr. Reeves, why the protective act? Does your wife know you're dining with her?"
Benjamin stiffened, but before he could retort, Evelyn raised a hand, signaling him to stand down.
He obeyed without hesitation.
Evelyn studied Cassandra with amusement glinting in her eyes. "Sounds like you're insinuating something. Care to elaborate? Are you accusing me of misconduct with Dr. Reeves?"
Cassandra let out a derisive laugh. "Everyone knows Crimson Bistro is the leading name in the industry. Dr. Reeves, as its director, must be quite the catch. I suppose it makes sense you'd use your... charms to sway him."
Benjamin could only stare, his expression a mix of disbelief and irritation.
Cassandra pressed on, her voice sharp. "But he's married, Evelyn. Where's your self-respect? Isn't Dominic enough for you? Why go after someone else's husband?"
Evelyn wasn't surprised by the misunderstanding. A teasing smile played on her lips. "Funny how some people see filth everywhere. Says more about them than anyone else."
Cassandra's fists clenched. "You—"
Before she could finish, Alexander stepped between them, his voice cutting through the tension. "Enough."
Cassandra shot him a pleading look. "Did you hear that? She has no shame!"
Alexander's gaze locked onto Evelyn. "You had dinner with Dr. Reeves?"
Evelyn didn't flinch. "Yes. Is that a crime?"
A strange unease settled in Alexander's chest. Something felt off. "What did you discuss?"
Benjamin started to answer, but Evelyn smoothly interrupted. "Mr. Falcon, I'm a renowned surgeon. Dr. Reeves oversees Crimson Bistro. Naturally, we talked medicine."
Benjamin nodded. "Exactly. I've long admired Dr. Carter's work. Tonight was purely professional."
He turned to Cassandra with a smirk. "I'd watch that temper if I were you, Ms. Cassandra. Your heart condition is deteriorating. Without Dr. Carter's intervention, no one else can help you. Maybe you should be trying to win her favor instead of insulting her."
The words struck like a slap. Cassandra paled instantly.
Evelyn observed her coldly. Not an ounce of pity stirred in her.
The Chambers family had dug their own grave. They deserved no sympathy.
Sophia knew she couldn't count on Isabella's mercy. Her only option was to cling to Alexander's protection.
She couldn't afford to lose Alexander. Not now. Not ever.
With Alexander by her side, she'd ensure Isabella never recovered from this humiliation.
A cruel smirk twisted Sophia's lips as she suddenly announced, "Alexander, let's leave this place. Take me home."
She wrapped her slender arm possessively around Alexander's muscular one, her voice laced with triumph. "Isabella, you'll be delighted to know I'm spending the night at Alexander's penthouse."
Her words hung in the air like a poisoned dagger, aimed straight at Isabella's heart. The gleam in Sophia's eyes promised this was only the beginning of her revenge.
