Chapter 611
Rosalind froze in shock.
Everett was standing right outside her apartment? What was he doing here?
"You need to leave. You're married now. To Genevieve. I don't involve myself with taken men. That's non-negotiable."
"The marriage isn't what it seems."
Rosalind's pulse quickened. What did he mean? If not what she thought, then what?
"Just give me five minutes to explain. Let's try again, please?" Everett's voice was soft, pleading.
Her fingers tightened around her phone. A flicker of hope stirred within her. Was there more to his sudden wedding with Genevieve? It had never made sense—why would Everett marry her out of nowhere?
She still loved him. But the confusion was unbearable.
"Fine," she relented. "I'm coming out."
She ended the call and moved toward the door.
Outside, Everett's expression brightened. Finally, he could make her understand. Everything would be okay again.
Then—tires screeched.
A black SUV swerved toward him. Two armed men in tactical gear leapt out, seizing him.
Everett snarled. "Who sent you?"
"Your grave did."
He struggled—but agony ripped through his side. Blood bloomed across his shirt.
They dragged him into the vehicle.
Through the tinted window, he saw Rosalind step outside. His heart lurched. He slammed his palms against the glass. "Rosalind! Look at me!"
A blade plunged into his chest.
Crimson dripped from his lips as he gasped her name. "Rosalind... please..."
"Move it!" a guard barked.
The SUV peeled away, leaving Rosalind oblivious on the sidewalk.
She scanned the empty street. Where was he? He'd just called—
"Waiting for someone?"
She spun. Julian stood there, smirking. Not Everett.
Disappointment flashed across her face. "Why are you here?"
"Can't I visit my favorite girl?" He stepped closer, catching her hand. "Or were you hoping for a married man?"
She yanked free. "Stop it."
"Face it, Rosalind. Everett's gone. But I'm here. And I'm not giving up." His gaze burned into hers.
She turned away. "I don't love you. Not now. Not ever."
His smile vanished. Fists clenched.
If she still wanted Everett... then Everett would disappear. Permanently.
The SUV halted at a cliff's edge. The guards hauled out a bloodied figure.
Julian approached slowly, a cold smile twisting his lips.
